TRAVELOGUE BY A-FINITY
A-finity is the textile design collective based in Helsinki where I work together with two fashion/textile designers, Anna Alanko and Anna-Mari Leppisaari. After three weeks of our textile study trip in Japan, the exhibition “Travelogue- Mental Landscapes” was held in the gallery Third Space in Helsinki (2014)
In order to express our conversation with Japanese textile culture as well as Finnish textile tradition, the exhibition was resulted as textile works, a pattern installation and an inspiration book.
Seashell woven Obi textiles were created based on the collaboration with Tamiya Raden, a textile workshop in Kyoto. Inspired by this workshop ́s technique, we also created two textile works with the jacquard loom.
Travelogue is supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation and realised in collaboration with a Kyoto-based textile studio, Tamiya Raden.
As a part of this project, we made an inspiration book with the hand made collages. We brought this book to Japan in order to present our artistic expression and design aesthetics to experts and people we met during the trip.
